Festiwal adresowany jest przede wszystkim do ludzi młodych, bo to głównie oni kształtują dynamikę życia Warszawy. Ale wszyscy powinni ją zobaczyć. Bo to feeria kolorów, umiejętności i sprawności artystycznej. Pragniemy, by miasto poza czystą rozrywką, okazją do spotkań i transakcji handlowych oferowało im również przeżycia artystyczne, by stało się prawdziwym miejscem nie tylko przyjaznym kulturze, ale także tę kulturę współtworzącym. Dążymy do tego, by sztuka mogła zaistnieć w różnych miejscach miasta - na placach, w przejściach podziemnych, na stadionach, w parkach - wszędzie tam, gdzie znajdzie się przypadkowy przechodzień.

W planach tegorocznego Festiwalu są prezentacje m.in. francuskiej grupy Jo Bithume ze spektaklem "Victor Frankenstein", holenderskiej grupy GAJES ze spektaklem "DON QUIXOTE", hiszpańskiej grupy Xarxa Teatre ze spektaklem "Tombatossals" czy niemieckiej grupy antagon theaterAKTion ze spektaklem "Ginkgo". Nie zabraknie oczywiście zespołów z polski; będzie np. premierowy pokaz Teatru A Part i spektakl "Remus" Teatru Snów.

Dążymy do tego, by sztuka mogła zaistnieć w różnych miejscach miasta, na placu, w przejściu podziemnym, na stadionie, w parku, wszędzie tam, gdzie znajdzie się przypadkowy przechodzień.

Co decyduje o wyjątkowości Festiwalu? Przecież w Warszawie, w czasie lata, odbywa się wiele imprez plenerowych.

W czasie lat od wyborów czerwcowych 1989 roku wiele się zmieniło. W ciągu tych dwudziestu lat nauczyliśmy się korzystać z dobrodziejstwa posiadania wolnego czasu, wolnej przestrzeni miejskiej, swobody zgromadzeń, braku cenzury... tak wiele się nauczyliśmy i tak szybko zapominamy o złych rzeczach. W moim przypadku to tylko i aż szesnaścielat funkcjonowania w przestrzeni miejskiej. Zaczynaliśmy z działalnością artystyczną jako jedni z pierwszych. I jak to w demokracji, nie byliśmy i nie jesteśmy monopolistami działań w tej przestrzeni. Przyglądamy się i kibicujemy wszystkim działaniom, które noszą obywatelską aktywność i artystyczną jakość. Co nas wyróżnia? Wierność ideałom, które przyświecały od początku Festiwalu Sztuka Ulicy. Sztuka, artyści, teatr, plener w hołdzie naszemu miastu.

Na stronie internetowej znajduje się wzmianka o stałej, kilkutysięcznej widowni, którą Sztuka Ulicy zdobyła w czasie szesnastu lat istnienia. Czy umiałby pan określić, jaka jest festiwalowa publiczność?

Jakie są najważniejsze wydarzenia, największe gwiazdy, tegorocznej Sztuki Ulicy?

W planach prezentacje m.in. francuskiej grupy Jo Bithume ze spektaklem "Victor Frankenstein", holenderskiej grupy GAJES ze spektaklem "DON QUIXOTE", hiszpańskiej grupy Xarxa Teatre ze spektaklem "Tombatossals" czy niemieckiej grupy antagon theaterAKTion ze spektaklem "Ginkgo". Nie zabraknie oczywiście zespołów z polski. I tak premierowy pokaz Teatru A Part czy spektakl "Remus" Teatru Snów.

Czy, jako dyrektor i spiritus movens Sztuki Ulicy, ma Pan jeszcze jakieś niespełnione marzenia związane z Festiwalem?

Odpowiem, że człowiek bez marzeń to wrak człowieka. Mam tych marzeń bez liku i w miarę możliwości staram się je spełniać w kolejnych odsłonach festiwalu. Żywot artysty ulicznego jest sezonowy i zdarza się też tak, że chciałbym pokazać naszym widzom pewne formacje lub spektakle. Ale i tak bywa, że zespół przestaje istnieć, a i spektakl jest już zdjęty z afisza. I wtedy żal, że się nie zdążyło. Bo ludzie uprawiający tę dziedzinę sztuki to fantastyczne osobowości: niepokorne, zbuntowane i kochające wolność.

The Festival is predominantly for young people because they are the ones shaping the dynamics of Warsaw life. In fact, everyone should come to the Festival. The Festival is a blaze of colours, of talent and artistic abilities. We want the city to offer everyone, apart from pure entrainment, opportunities for meetings, sealing business transactions, artistic experiences; we want it to become a vibrant place, friendly not only in a cultural way, but also in co-creating this culture. We are trying hard to make this art present in various locations in the city - squares, underground passes, stadiums and parks - everywhere a fortuitous passerby can be found.

This year's edition of the Street Art Festival plans to feature the French group, Jo Bithume, with 'Victor Frankenstein', the Dutch group, GAJES, with 'DON QUIXOTE', the Spanish group, Xarxa Teatre, with 'Tombatossals' and the German group, antagon theaterAKTion, with 'Ginkgo'. Of course, Polish theaters will also be lavishly represented, for example, by the premiere performance of, A Part Theater, and 'Remus' and by, Teatr Snów, (The Dream Theater).

What makes the festival so unique? There are so many outdoor events in summer every year.

Many things have changed since the June 1989 elections. During these past twenty years we learned how to use the blessings of free time, free urban space, freedom to gather, no censorship. we learned so much and we forget about the bad things so quickly. In my case it's only sixteen years working in the urban space. We started out with our artistic activity; we were one of the first. And as it happens in democracy we weren't and we aren't monopolists in activities in this domain. We observe and support all activities which are citizen activities and have an artistic quality. What distinguishes us? Being faithful to the ideals which since the beginning were the guidelines of the Street Art Festival. Art, artists, theatre, the outdoors, tribute to our city.

Your website mentions a returning audience of several thousand to the Street Art Festival during the sixteen years of its existence. Can you tell us what the festival audience is like?

Street Art Festival is directed mainly at young people because it is mainly these people who shape the dynamics of life in Warsaw. We want the city to provide, apart from pure entertainment, opportunities for business meetings and trade transactions, to offer esthetic experiences to those young people, to become a real place not only culture-friendly but also co-creating culture. We strive so art can exist in various locations in this town - a square, in an underpass, a stadium, in a park - everywhere where an accidental passerby can be found.

What are the major events, the biggest stars of this year's edition of Street Art Festival?

The programme includes French group Jo Bithume with, 'Victor Frankenstein', Dutch GAJES with, 'DON QUIXOTE', Spanish Xarxa Teatre with, 'Tombatossals' and German antigon theater, AKTion, with, 'Ginkgo'. Of course there will be Polish groups for example the premiere performance of Teatr A Part and 'Remus' by Dreams Theatre.

Being the director and spiritus movens of Street Art Festival do you still have any unfulfilled dreams connected with this festival?

I have to answer that saying that a man without dreams is only a shadow of a man. I have countless dreams and I try to fulfill them when I can in subsequent editions of the festival. The life of an outdoor artist is seasonal and it just so happens that I would like to show the audience certain formations or performances. But sometimes the group ceases to exist or the performance is no longer running. Then I regret I didn't make it. Because people in this field are fantastic characters: brave, rebellious and they love their freedom.
