KAMIENICA Powstała w 1909 roku. Nowoczesna i elegancka stanęła pod adresem Leszno 13. Przy drzwiach znajdowały się kaczki z hakami do zawieszania koszernej żywności. Czworobok budynku otaczał niewielkie prostokątne podwórko, na którym tryskała woda z fontanny. Mieszcząca się w pobliżu kawiarnia "Pod fontanną" była miejscem koncertów oraz spotkań artystów i świata biznesu. Mówiono, że właściciel kamienicy wzbogacił się na dostawach skórzanych elementów dla carskiego wojska.
W latach trzydziestych sprzedał ją związkowi zawodowemu powszechnego zakładu ubezpieczeń wzajemnych (dziś PZU).
Niedługo potem wybuchła II wojna światowa i było tu żydowskie getto. Przetrwała. Miała ogromne szczęście - jest jedną z nielicznych budowli ocalałych z pożogi wojennej
w tej okolicy W przejeździe bramnym zachowała się glazura z początku ubiegłego wieku, przetrwały marmurowe schody wraz z poręczą. Ocalała także posadzka w piwnic ach, gdzie dziś znajduje się najmniejsza scena teatru. Posadzce nie zaszkodziło nawet to, ze przez wiele lat pomieszczenia te były wykorzystywane jako magazyny przez Zakład Gospodarowania Nieruchomościami.
Po II wojnie światowej arteria, przy której stoi kamienica nazywała się Aleją Generała Świerczewskiego. Dziś jej adres to aleja Solidarności 93.
EMILIAN Ponad czterdzieści lat po powstaniu kamienicy urodził się w Warszawie Emilian Kamiński. Był dzieckiem o niespożytej energii, wielkiej ciekawości świata, a przede obdarzony wieloma talentami artystycznymi. Wyrósł na aktora, reżysera, wokalistę i pisarza.
Jego imponujący artystyczny dorobek zaowocował odznaczeniami: w 2005 roku przyznano mu Złoty Krzyż Zasługi, a dwa lata później otrzymał srebrny Medal Gloria Artis - Zasłużony Kulturze.
W życiu - prywatnym i zawodowym - towarzyszy mu piękna kobieta, utalentowana aktorka Justyna Sieńczyłło. Dorobili się dwójki dzieci
i własnego teatru.
TEATR Oficjalnie otwarty został w Międzynarodowy Dzień Teatru 27 marca 2009 roku, w roku stulecia kamienicy. Na blisko 1800 metrach powierzchni dawnych magazynów ZGN powstały trzy sceny: Scena Oficyna z widownią na 300, a nawet 400 osób (zależnie od wielkości samej sceny, którą ustawia się z segmentów według potrzeb), Scena Parter dla 120 widzów oraz kameralna Piwnica Warsza mieszcząca 100 osób.
Droga do tej inauguracji była trudna i wyboista. Gdyby Emilian nie miał takich cech charakteru jak: upór, konsekwencja, determinacja w dążeniu do celu oraz tak bardzo potrzebnej przy pokonywaniu przeciwności losu pogody ducha - pewnie teatru by tu nie było. Siedem lat trwała walka o stworzenie tego wyjątkowego miejsca, jakim niewątpliwie jest Teatr Kamienica - al.Solidarności 93).
Teatr dla osób niepełnosprawnych posiada specjalną windę. Także niewidzący będą mogli z czasem liczyć na udogodnienia.
Na dziedzińcu stanęła tablica z ponad 150 nazwiskami osób, które pomogły w powstaniu teatru.
Teatr Kamienica rozpoczął artystyczną działalność jeszcze przed oficjalnym otwarciem; już we wrześniu ubiegłego roku na jednej ze scen odbywały się spektakle. Pierwsze produkcje nawiązywały do muzycznej sceny międzywojnia ("Piękne Panie i Panowie oraz "Ordonka
z Kamienicy") , ale w tym roku w repertuarze pojawiły się też pozycje bliższe naszym czasom ("Mój dzikus", "Mleko", koncert poświęcony Stachurze czy planowane: na wrzesień premiera polskiej sztuki "Botoks", na październik zaś premiera sztuki "Nienazwane święto" na podstawie tekstu Mirona Białoszewskiego "Pamiętnik z Powstania Warszawskiego").
Lokatorzy zaakceptowali nowe funkcje kamienicy, przychodzą na wspólne uroczystości, premiery i spotkania. Część z nich pracuje tu jako ekipa pomocnicza: bileterzy, szatniarze, portierzy. Założyciele Teatru Kamienica bardzo sobie to cenią, bo według Emiliana to - między innymi - tworzy atmosferę tego miejsca.
Wyjątkowość tego teatru ma bowiem polegać na jego funkcji towarzyskiej. Na tym, że goście zadomowią się tutaj i będą wracać. Tak się już dzieje z firmami, które miały tu eventy; bukują następne terminy, umawiają kolejne spektakle. Przestrzeń sprawia, że można zorganizować tu konferencję, zjeść obiad, obejrzeć przedstawienie, a potem posiedzieć jeszcze długo wieczorem we własnym gronie i w towarzystwie aktorów. Emilian ma nadzieję, że publiczność, przychodząca do teatru z ulicy także polubi tę rodzinną atmosferę i zostanie w tym magicznym miejscu dłużej niż trwa samo przedstawienie; ono będzie dla niej tylko częścią wieczoru. Emilian w stanie wojennym był twórcą "Teatru Domowego". Ludzie spotykali się w prywatnych mieszkaniach, a występ aktora wpisywał się we wspólnie z widzami spędzony czas, w którym było też miejsce na rozmowy nie tylko o sztuce, ale i o otaczającej rzeczywistości. To doświadczenie zaprocentowało poszukiwaniem własnego miejsca, w którym możliwe będzie stworzenie podobnego klimatu bliskości pomiędzy aktorem i widzem. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że uda się to w powstałym dzięki niemu Teatrze Kamienica.

THE BUILDING Built in 1909. Modern and elegant at 13 Leszno Street. Ducks with hooks were once fixed by the door to hang kosher food. The building quadrangle surrounded a small rectangular yard with water tinkling out of a fountain. The nearby café, 'At the Fountain', was a venue for concerts and artists' and business meetings. It was said that the owner of the building made money supplying leather work for the Tsar's Army. In the 1930s it was sold to the labour union of the General Insurance Company (at present PZU).
Soon after World War II broke out the area was incorporated into the Jewish Ghetto. The building survived. It was lucky - it is one of the very few buildings saved from the devastation of the war in the area. There are tiles from the beginning of the last century preserved in the gate and marble stairs with a handrail. The floor in basements also survived. This is where the smallest stage of the theatre is located. The floor has not been damaged even though for many years the rooms were used as storage by the Real Estate Management Office (ZGN).
After World War II the road on which the building is situated was named General Świerczewski Avenue. Its present address is 93 Solidarności Avenue.
EMILIAN Some forty years after the tenement was built, Emilian Kamiński was born in Warsaw. He was a child with seemingly endless energy, with a great curiosity of the things of the world, but first of all, gifted with numerous artistic talents. He grew to be an actor, director, vocalist and writer.
His impressive artistic work was appreciated and he was the recipient of numerous awards: in 2005 he received the Golden Cross of Merit and two years later the silver Gloria Artis medal for cultural merit.
In his life - private and professional - he is accompanied by the beautiful and talented actress, Justyna Sieńczyłło. They have two children, and their own theatre.
THE THEATRE The theatre was officially opened on International Theatre Day, on the 27 March 2009, the year marking the hundredth anniversary of the building. Almost 1800 square metres of the former storage space of the ZGN now house three stages: the Outbuilding Stage for an audience of 300 to 400 (this depends on the size of the stage itself which is made up of segments according to the needs of the performance), Ground floor Stage for an audience of 120 and the studio Warsz' Stage for an audience of 100.
The road leading to the inauguration was difficult and bumpy. If Emilian had not possessed the character traits he has: persistence, consequence, determination in accomplishing his aims and high spirits, very much needed when overcoming difficulties - the theatre would probably not exist. The battle to create this exceptional place which Kamienica Theatre (93 Solidarności Av.) definitely is took seven years.
The Theatre has a special lift for the disabled. People with visual problems can count on immanent improvements.
There is a plaque in the yard with the names of over 150 people who helped in creating the theatre.
The Kamienica Theatre launched its artistic activity before the official opening. As early as September last year a performance was staged. The first productions were references to the musical mood of the inter-war period, 'Piękne Panie i Panowie / Beautiful Ladies and Gentlemen' and 'Ordonka z Kamienicy / Ordonka from the Tenement'. This year's repertoire brings performances closer to our times, 'Mój dzikus / My barbarian', 'Mleko / Milk', a concert devoted to Stachura or the planned for autumn premiere of the Polish, 'Botoks / Botox', for September, and, 'Nienazwane święto', based on Miron Białoszewski's, 'Pamiętnik z Powstania Warszawskiego / A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising', scheduled for October.
The residents of the building have accepted its new function, they attend the ceremonies, premieres and meetings. Some of them were here as technical assistance: ticket vendors, cloakroom staff, doormen. The founders of Kamienica Theatre appreciate this greatly, as according to Emilian - this among other things - creates the atmosphere of the place.
The peculiarity of the theatre lies in its social function. In the fact that guests feel at home here, and return. Several companies have already held their events here; and they have booked further dates, with arrangements for more meetings. The large space is ideal for organizing a conference, a dinner party, seeing a show and then sitting together long into the night in the company of the actors. Emilian hopes that the audience coming to the theatre from the street will also like this familial atmosphere and will stay in this magical place longer when the show ends for this is also a part of the evening. During Martial Law, Emilian was the creator of, 'Home Theatre'. People used to meet in their private flats and the actor's performance was part of the evening spent together with the audience, where there was also space for conversation not only about art but also about the surrounding reality. This experience resulted in the idea of having his own place where creating the atmosphere of intimacy between actors and audience would be possible. It looks like everything will be possible thanks to Emilian and the Kamienica Theatre.
